Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day to you all! I would like to share a creation not yet complete (story of my life - I will be late for my own funeral). I began this valentine creation for the love of my life, Marc back in December. It is a board book with each page dedicated to a subject near and dear to his heart. One page is of course our life together and the other is Marc with our Farmall cub tractor (we do not live in the city, but in the suburbs, so when we take it out it out it draws a bit of attention). I showed it to him this morning in it's incomplete stage and he loved it anyway... I told him that this way he can have some input as to the final outcome of the complete design (nice save, Roberta!). FYI, sorry, but for some reason my images here are a bit grainy...

Vintage Valentines On My Mind

I've mentioned before (I think, anyway) that cutesy things are not "thing" - but sometimes, especially when it comes to vintage items, I do make an exception. Marc & I went antiquing yesterday and I was drawn to the vintage Valentines that were at virtually every display. I came across one booth that had a huge bowl full of them that said "your choice - $1 each" such deal! Well, as I went through the lot of them, I came across quite a few that had a pirate theme. As a Johnny Depp/Pirates of the Caribbean fan myself - how could I resist? But what vintage are these? Hum, I had to do some research on this and my best guess (maybe someone out there can correct me, however) is that this is probably from the early to mid-50's and probably due to the popularity of the original Disney Peter Pan movie which was released in 1953. A bit before my time, but so charming! I love the skull and cross bones (the skull is smiling!) and the card folds so the shovel is in the pirates hands. So, for those of you who think the skull thing is so original to our current generation, think again - what is old is new again! 

I continue working on my journaling for my Pam Carriker class. Pictures will have to follow within the next day or two. 

I have to mention that Rock 'n' Roll lost one it's most influential guitarist this month, for those of you who may not have heard, Ron Asheton best known from the Stooges. RIP. 

and even more stamping

this is a valentines card that i made for marc. i like the way the glitter turned out. it took quite awhile to make this, but marc really liked it. 

more snow. just what we need. marc's car is out of commission, so he has mine today. that means i must rely on someone to get me to work today. that means not being able to get home at lunch time. 

i did get a couple hours of studio time yesterday. i so needed it. stamping, coloring. i bought some new colored pencils too. i just love coloring with pens, pencils, inks & paints. that's my favorite time in the studio. I am working on this recycle material project for QAM. I am very excited about it. lots of ideas rolling around in my head.

can you tell i like the "erie moon" stamp from stampscapes? I use it a lot. I looked everywhere for just the right bat stamps. this one is from crackerbox palace in janesville, wi. the cat stamp is from rubbermoon. copic markers worked great on this stamp. it was supposed to be valentine's card for my aunt (cat lover), but i didn't have it done in time. the scanner cut off a bit of the cat valentine.
